Mellor Methodist is set in the thriving little village of Mellor, on the outskirts of Blackburn. Originally founded in the 1700s, our church family now meets in a modern building enabling us to be very adaptable to different settings.
Although we are a small congregation, we have a big heart for others and enjoy a close relationship with our neighbouring church and local primary school as we work together on projects to spread the word through the school children, staff and community. Pastoral care and sharing God's love with one another is an important part of our church life, undergirded by prayer for the church and community.
Our Sunday services start at 10.30am each week and are led by a range of local preachers as well as our own minister, Rev Stuart Smith, providing variety and balance in our worship. We have a small, yet growing and delightful Sunday School which meets monthly. Ages range from toddlers to 9yrs. During this season of Covid our families receive a monthly Sunday School pack and a short catch up on zoom which helps to keeps us all in touch with one another.
Our Family and Community Worker, Helen Bottle, runs a weekly Toddlers' group for our young families in the village, and further afield, on Thursdays from 1-3 pm during term-time. Crafts, songs and healthy snacks along with time for families to chat with each other is all part and parcel of the session. While the group cannot meet during Covid - there is a Facebook page, on which Helen posts storytelling and craft time for everyone - it is well worth checking out!
We have a music group that meets every 3 weeks or so on a Monday at 7pm, simply to practice playing and singing praise and worship songs. Tuesday Fellowship is weekly from 9.30 - 10.30am for a time of fellowship with others over a shared Word that is given by someone different each week.
We hold a monthly 'It Just so Happened' evening for praise and testimony on Thursdays at 7pm, where local and not-so local people come to speak and encourage us of their inspiring journey with God.
Coffee and Cake is also held monthly for all to come and have a slice of delicious home-made cake and a cuppa over a chat. Usually this is the last Saturday of the month from 10.30 am to 12 noon.
However, during this time while all worship and activities at church are suspended, we meet via zoom for services as well as a fortnightly Bible Study, alongside keeping in touch via our church Facebook page. To contact us via this method, click here
